After nearly two months of being out of business, cinema halls in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana are reopening today with the two most anticipated movies, Ishq and Thimmarusu. Cinema Halls have remained closed through the whole series of graded unlocking. The reopening of theaters in India given hopes to small filmmakers when usually the biggest films of the year are lined up for release. As per the latest reports, while movie halls will reopen in AP and Telangana today, except for East Godavari, the theater owners are on an agreement not to open theaters until the ticket price issue is resolved.
Multiplexes like INOX, PVR Cinemas will reopen on July 30 with vaccinated staff in states where multiplexes and theatres have been allowed to operate. Thimmarusu, starring Satyadev and Priyanka Jawalkar, and Ishq – Not a Love Story, starring Teja Sajja and Priya Prakash Varrier, are among the list of Telugu movies to release in theatres since the onset of the second wave of COVID-19.
Cinemas to Reopen in AP & Telangana with Ishq & Thimmarusu
Producers are also clear that there’s nothing that can replace the cinema experience and that it’s just a matter of time. “For the producing community, there is another window which will open up and that would be to produce movies which will be commissioned by numerous OTT platforms across India – Telugu, Tamil as well as Hindi.
Theater Occupancy Rate:
Theatres are opening up with 50% occupancy in Andhra Pradesh, and 100% occupancy in Telangana. With a night curfew from 10 pm to 6 am still in place in Andhra Pradesh, theatres will open accordingly, said film distributor and exhibitor NV Prasad.
Single Screen Theaters
With film exhibitors facing huge losses in this amid pandemic, and many single-screen theatres remain shutting down, exhibitors in both states have been seeking various relaxations from the state government, to help mitigate losses. In Andhra Pradesh, film exhibitors have been demanding the government to increase the ceiling on ticket prices.
On the other hand, PVR will be screening some of the major Hollywood titles besides regional films that are set to release in the country in the coming weeks. This list includes “The Suicide Squad” (August 5), “Mortal Kombat” (July 30) and “The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Devil Do It” (August 13), as well as NBCUniversal’s titles “Promising Young Woman” (August 6), “Old” (August 13), “Fast & Furious 9” (August 19), “The Croods: A New Age” and “Nobody” (August 27).
